Size the transformer to the total wattage of the lights on it: add up the fixture wattages and choose a transformer that covers the load. Kichler 12V landscape fixtures are designed to operate between 9 and 15 volts, so they work with these output taps. Follow the instruction sheet for load limits and wire runs. Kichler's instruction sheets say the total load should not exceed the transformer's rated wattage and should generally not be less than one-third of it, so a single small fixture on a large transformer is below the recommended range.
The 600W and 900W models are built as 300W circuits, and each terminal block is one circuit. The breaker trips if the load on a circuit exceeds its rating. Some Kichler fixtures' instruction sheets say to use them only with a power unit rated a maximum of 300W. For those fixtures choose the 75W, 150W or 300W model, not the 600W or 900W, unless Kichler confirms otherwise.
