But our story didn’t begin with a large warehouse or a massive inventory. It started with one person, one garage, and one vision.
Where It All Started
Back in the early 2000s, our founder Chaim got his start working at a lighting company in upstate New York. There, he gained hands-on experience with products, customers, and the ever-evolving world of lighting technology—especially as the industry transitioned into LED. This firsthand knowledge didn’t just shape his understanding of the trade; it gave him a vision for what lighting supply could be: knowledgeable, fast, and community-driven.
In 2011, Chaim decided to pursue that vision by opening his own business—from the modest space of a two-car garage in Central Jersey. At first, things were manageable. Knowing the products inside and out made it easy to help customers find exactly what they needed. But as word spread and demand grew, so did the challenges.
Soon, Chaim found himself navigating deliveries from 18-wheelers, working through stacks of boxes, and fulfilling larger and larger orders—all from the driveway. It became clear that expansion wasn’t a goal, it was a necessity. In 2014, Community Lighting opened its first warehouse, and the business hasn’t slowed down since.
Where We Are Today
Today, Community Lighting is proud to operate from multiple warehouse facilities, with a growing team of lighting professionals who share Chaim’s original mission: to provide excellent service, reliable products, and honest advice to every customer—whether you’re buying one fixture or outfitting a 200-unit development.
